General discussion

Recently some video software do not open video files

Jan 22, 2015 4:24PM PST

I used to use software to convert video clips to other form, today as usual I want to convert some .mp4 to .mpg, the "Total video converter" and the "Intelligence converter" even "Nero vision (make DVD)" do not open any file I have. I do not know why, because just two days ago every thing work very well.
Will someone tell me what happened, and help me out.
Thanks a lot in advance

Sorry but you have to dive deeper.

Go get a video inspector to see what the encoding is on the ones that don't open. I used VLC Player as well as Gspot to look at that detail. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/GSpot

My guess is you downloaded something with an encoding that your current setup doesn't recognize.

check out UBuntu Studio

version 14.04 LTS

Plenty of convertors in it, also can run direct from DVD drive without installing. If it can't see, play, or convert the files, then something wrong with them.
