Receiving Incoming Faxes with Windows XP sp2

by healthandwealth / February 8, 2006 12:17 AM PST

I can send faxes with my windows xp fax setup; however I can not receive incoming faxes, why? Everytime the fax console comes up showing I have a fax coming in, my computer answers the call and around 52-54 seconds into receiving it, I get an error message. I have searched the Windows XP Microsoft website for answers, and it seems that I am not the only one that has this problem, and their answer is always ''get a better fax software'' any suggestions? I have it configured correctly as far as I know, but this is becoming a very frustrating issue.

No, there is no true fix. Do try these.

1. Change the driver for the faxmodem.

2. Change the faxmodem for a hardware based modem.

3. Try Winfax.

Best of luck,

I forgot one case that was never solved. It involved a 10+ year old Canon 80 fax machine. No matter what faxmodem we used or what software, we never successfully received a fax from that machine. The Canon 80 did however send faxes successfully to most other fax machines. The owner of the fax machine was not going to admit it could be one its last days.

Not much you can do about that.
