Nope. Assuming you're talking about output wattage from the speakers and the receiver, then the answer is still no.
Even if a receiver's wattage ratings are higher than those of the speakers, the speakers wouldn't short or stop working. Instead, the sound emanating from the speakers would be much fuller because of the added wattage (it would also mean that you wouldn't have to turn up the volume up as much for the speakers to be loud).
That's my take on the subject.
Million dollar question is: can a speaker output outrun receivers output?
