Receiver Help

Sep 3, 2008 6:06AM PDT

We have not yet bought but are leaning towards the Sony Bravia 52W4100 TV and the Definitive Technology ProCinema 1000 speaker set so what receivr should I get? I was lookign at the Sony ES2400 but cant find much in way of reviews and a lot of people seem to be anti-Sony with respect to receivers. Any thoughts on what to buy? Also is there any truth in better communication if you do Sony TV/Receiver/DVD?

what's your budget

my only concern is that nominal rating on those are 4-8 ohms.

If you only listen to modest volumes, nearly anything will work, however. If you like to crank if effortlessly now and then . . . well...

Forget matching the components. Get a RF-20 universal radio freq remote bundle pack, replete with blaster, for only $75.

If you are ok with a HUGE and HEAVY receiver, the Onkyo 805 has been the best value, IMO, for the entire year of 2008. However, Onkyo does not enjoy the reputation of some other brands like Denon. I don't personally mind if I don't have to pay twice as much for the same amp and feature set.

If you like nicer stuff, Id go with Denon, but Im only even somewhat attracted starting with the 3xxx series and up. 2xxx series and lower, Id just go Onkyo or something, this is just personal blather.

that the distance you sit from the speakers also plays a large role.

and just fyi, in my opinion nominal ohms ratings have little bearing. Seems everything is nominal 8 ohms, even $16,000 BW speakers. The only impednace rating that matters is the minimal.

I believe the antonym for "nominal" is "actual".
