Reccommend device to buy

Mar 4, 2011 12:34AM PST

I have a great stereo system that includes a carousel full of CDs currently. I wish to store all the music on a small solid state device (MP player/reader/etc.) that I could connect to my system via 3.5mm plug to stereo phone cable. The device would sit on top of the counter over the stereo system and have access to the amplifier via the earphone cable. Ability to select music by artist/type/song name is required.
I have looked at MP players/readers/PCs. Ideally I would like a larger touchscreen device with usb connectivity and capability to store about 400 CDs of music. Any assistance would be appreciated as there are just so many options and many sites are obviously biased to a certain manfacturer (need I say apple). Thx
