Reboot

Dec 9, 2009 12:18AM PST

Gateway model MX8734

Laptop keeps rebooting even when trying to boot from some bootable cds. Originally occured with Vista installed. Pulled main & CMOS batteries, memory, & shorted both main & CMOS battery inputs. Zero filled hard drive. Cannot get bootable partition manager on CD to fully load & function. Cannot get Ubuntu to INSTALL. HD requires partitioning & formatting.

If you cleaned the insides and applied fresh heatsink compound. See the top posts if this forum for info about that.

Vacuumed inside accessible panels only. Did NOT apply fresh heat-sink compound. What TOP POSTS ?

PS: System will NOT even run Ubuntu 9.02 from CD on FIRST BOOT after powerup.

I take it that you are new to these forums.

At the top of the forums there can be "sticky" posts so that members can avoid repeated answers and for those that help don't have to repeat the same content.

What some members forget is there are no paid staff. A few get upset over this forum model.

Hope this helps,
Bob

No paid staff, no controls exerted on you and yet you don't like the FREE advice. See POST 2 and do that!

Still my best idea on this one and what I do first given the story.
