Looks like the connection area is recessed. I've never known this to be an issue. During install I always make changes on the fly to accommodate issues when they come up. This one doesn't look bad at all. Maybe there's more here like "I want to mount it flush to the wall" versus the usual where we have a fraction of an inch space? We leave that space because the maker tells us to for cooling.
