Question

Realtek Digital Output no sound

Jan 1, 2015 9:11AM PST

Hello, about a week ago I got a new Windows 8 laptop. Everything's been fine except for one thing. Sometimes, for seemingly no reason, my laptop will switch from using the "Speakers" playback device (which works fine) to using the "Realtek Digital Output" playback device (which makes no sound- but I still see the green lines that move up and down). I've tried disabling the RDO device, didn't help. I tried plugging in headphones, didn't help. I tried to restart the program (google chrome, skyrim, and basically everything else) and that didn't help.

Rebooting my computer temporarily fixes the problem, but it still occasionally goes to the Realtek sound device and I don't want to have to restart my computer every time it does.

I haven't updated or downgraded any sound drivers, and according to device manager I already have the latest drivers.

Any and all help is appreciated!

Mine only shows one and it's disabled. I disable most but the anti virus.
