RealPlayer & Palm TX

Nov 27, 2005 10:49AM PST

The new Palm TX is the only device which RealPlayer Mobile's page doesn't seem to list. If I try to install the mobile version of RealPlayer on a Palm TX, would it work? And would I be able to play songs purchased from the Real Music Store?

I can't answer that.

Even though I own the T|X, Real's past nearly spyware infestations have me never installing their products even if they promised it was all better now.

However, I do see I can drop .MP3 files on the memory card or via the Palm desktop software and it works jim-dandy.

The T|X finally dislodged my continual Palm IIIc companion. It's a fine effort by PalmOne. Too bad about that cradle.

How many songs can the TX hold without an upgraded memory card?

Storage Capacity...
Dec 5, 2005 11:46AM PST

The Palm TX has 128MB of built-in memory, approximately 100MB of which is user-accessible. Assuming all songs are 3 minutes long and stored as MP3s at 128kbps, the TX could hold approximately 30 songs without needing a storage/memory card added. However, the actual number of songs can vary greatly depending on the length, quality (bitrate), and format of the song. Thus, if you want to store more you can either reduce the quality (and thus the file size) or add an SD memory card.

Hope this helps,
John

Just had a live chat with Real support

While support staff insist that their Music Store files will work best on a handheld only listed as "supported", I'd like to think that the TX is only unlisted because of its recent release.

So, could I use RealPlayer on it or not? It's pretty much my only free option for playing purchased, DRM-protected music on it.

Just try it

Download the version for the Tungsten T5 and see what happens. It will probably work. The T5 has a lot of similar features and the same NVFS.

Cannot drop MP3 onto handheld just exp. card?
Dec 22, 2005 3:32AM PST

I can't seem to drop MP3s onto the handheld (don't have exp. card yet) any idea why? I think the real player will work on anything that has the Palm 5 OS on it!

I can't drop MP3s on mine either. (more.)

I use the Palm Desktop software and in there is a tool to add the MP3's since you don't have a SD CARD and SD CARD writer.

Hope this helps.

Music on the Tungsten E
Jan 14, 2006 10:22PM PST

I am looking for help on getting files to my Tungsten E. I am new to this whole music thing. All i wanted was some songs to put on Palm. Bought from walmart.com. I have RealOne on Palm. Now when i transfer via RealPlayerOne to Palm, i get insufficient rights? Why? i have the licenses. I can transfer other music. The songs i can not transfer say Protected YES in Media Player. What am I missing, what am i doing wrong? I was able to tranfer the Carpenters last month - now I cant. Insufficient rights.
You mention transfering with Desktop software. I never found way to do that. I have a SD card in Palm.

This whole music thing is frustrating. Any help would be great!

BINGO! Walmart + Real + Palm = Never going to work. Why?
Jan 15, 2006 1:58AM PST

The Walmart tunes have DRM. DRM (digital rights management) is not inplemented (fully or other reason) on the Palm so you get the noted error. Transfer via card or desktop is also NEVER going to be supported with DRM content.

Next time? Just get the CD, rip, transfer, enjoy.

Options for no DRM
Jan 15, 2006 6:45AM PST

So my issue is the DRM.. I would buy the CD but the neat thing about downloading is I can buy single songs. I just want a good, small assortment of artists. I would just need to find a source that is non-DRM, and legal? Is there such a thing?

Thanks for the response. At least I can quit beating my head against a wall!

http://www.pocket-tunes.com/ notes what stores work with this player.

And I'm glad to read you have cut back on bandaids and aspirin.
