General discussion

really wide lens on basic digi camera...

Mar 17, 2006 1:12PM PST

I need a digital cam. with a fisheye lens for pictures inside houses & small areas. I was hoping to get a $150-$300 camera w/ this feature. 4-5 mp is more than enough as most pics will be at 2 mp.
Is there a basic model cam. that I can add the wide lens onto. A fiend had a Mavica w/ a fisheye lens & it was really useful.
Please steer me in the right direction for this purchase. I hope to find a Sony or Kodak as I am familiar with them.
Thank you

Wide Angle

None of the big camera makers offer a fisheye lens, for that class of camera.

The closest camera I know of, is the Canon A520 with the WC-DV52 wide angle lens and the LA-DC52F adapter.

That would run you about $325 and provides a focal length (35mm equivalent) of 24.5mm.

The next closest is the Fujifilm E510 which comes with a wide angle lens at 28mm. It sells for under $200.

Which also have many more megapixels. You may want to look for a used version of your freinds Mavica. This is the best i found, its way out of what you wanted except for the lens. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikoncp8400/
