Really odd FTP error

Jul 3, 2008 12:53AM PDT

This isn't really the correct forum but I can't find one for protocols, so...

FTP worked fine on my workstation on Monday. I haven't installed or changed anything since, but now every time I try to open an FTP connection it is immediately closed by the host. This happens:

o On all hosts, including ones on my LAN (so not a NAT or connection error).
o On all software. I use CuteFTP but this happens using command-line FTP as well.
o Before I'm prompted for a password.

This doesn't happen on other machines on my network, so I'm finding this pretty strange. No other problems with the machine.

Look at your firewall settings.

Ah ha! It's winfirewall

If I turn off the firewall it works. However ftp.exe is on the exceptions list and I've added port 21. Any ideas?

And there it is.

Your firewall has issues. Since no names or ports told, I can't comment further.
