by Ray_moe / September 29, 2009 10:09 AM PDT

Setting up new computer and looking for free non suite program with real time also non Microsoft for Vista 64-bit.
Want auto update and auto scan capabilities.

Have looked and tried the common programs and do not find any free ones that fit the bill.

Need help to complete this setup.

Hi Ray,

Have looked and tried the common programs and do not find any free ones that fit the bill.

Did you try Avast and\or Avira Antivir FREE ? They have both Vista 64 bit.

Real time protection for Vista 64-bit

Let me expand my post of what I am looking for:

For example Spyware Terminator will alert and stop a suspicious file or a change or modification to files until I allow or block. They at the moment do not have real time for vista 64-bit.

Win Patrol does have the capability of alerting but usually 2 minutes after file is installed.

I am running Avira free on xp and it does not alert for suspicious files. Another problem they are having is that their servers for update are to small and when they put out a large up date you cannot get it until late at night.

From my experience with Avast home the same condition exist.

I am running McAfee Security Suite, that came with the computer, and it does not alert to the files and modifications.

I am leaning toward installing Avira free for anti-virus but that does not solve my problem.

Thanks for the reply
