and check the options. There should be a choice for auto updates. Disable or uncheck it and see if the player will run. But be advised, some online video or other multimedia requires the latest upgrade for the video to run. So you may have to upgrade whether you want to or not.
Windows XP Pro SP2
My computer comes with the free player Real Player 8 Basic (Build 6.0.9.380) installed among others such as Windows Media Player, Winamp and Quicktime. Some web sites require the Real Player to play multi media contents, and clicking a link launches the player. However, I am not able to play the contents, as Real Player's auto update detects a new version 10 and is ''harassing'' (I think that is the appropriate word) me to download and update the new version of some >10MB. Even if I opt for 'cancel' the prompt still comes up for me to download. I am not able to play unless I update. I have uncheck ''Real Player....'' at msconfig >Startup. How do I disable Real Player auto update or otherwise stop the prompt and enable play ? Thanks.
