Unlcear your question is.
(sorry for the Yoda speak.)
With IPs costing money many sites share a single IP so that's the REAL IP!
How unclear is it?
I mean the IPs of the "COMMENTS" left on those sites, not the IPs of such sites themSELVES!*facepalms*
Ahh, that's a horse of a different color.
The IP address of comments here is logged but not shown to everyday users. Here I only know of two folk that can see that information.
The reason for such being hidden from view is well known. For example if you reveal your true IP address someone might launch a denial of service attack against that. So this IP is not a matter for you or I to see.
"here" is the CNET forum.
If any moderator needs to check a post's IP address we have to ask Lee to do that for us.
This is deeply guarded information which even on the request Lee rightly so will not reveal.
Does that help?
BACK to the same point again!
OF COURSE IP of any comment/post on a web site isn't shown to everyone/its registered users (except some rare cases). What I was asking is if the administer/s of the WP-based sites can be able to see the IP of the comments left on their site.
That's the choice to the site's author.
As this will be the web masters choice, I can't answer yes or no.
I wonder if this is the usual ban issue. Once in a while a person gets banned and they use another name to get back in and then they get IP banned. There are long back and forth discussions on that.
So help me out here, since we know the web master can, what led to your question.
Sorry about the initial misunderstanding of host versus commenters IP.
That's so OK
And yet one one's answering if a common wordpress.com site is able to allow this feature (once again, NOT a wordpress.ORG one, though!)
Sorry if I was unclear.
Not a wordpress.ORG so yes, this is the web master's choice to do this.
Speaking of DDoS attacks
Aren't all sites prone to that type of attack since IP of the address can always be found out easily?
