Real Deal Topic suggestion - RFID in passports...

by shawnlin / August 19, 2006 6:50 AM PDT

I know, I know - huge topic full of knowns and unknowns and Orwellian type stuff...but I'd like to know a bit more about something specific: the development and testing of the new U.S. Passports with RFID chips implanted in them.

I've heard different stories on the passport's RFID security - that it's totally unreadable, that the omni-directional read ability is bad, there's a rolling ID code thing that changes every time it's read (what if someone is able to read it at some random cafe', it is 1 set of numbers off the next time you go to board a plane?), etc.

Best,
Shalin
