reading/playback CD

I find that I am having trouble reading back any CD that I have copied data files to. It appears that the file is copied successfully to the CD when I go through the normal process, but then when I insert the CD to read it back nothing shows up on screen. I have an eMachines pc with a CD-RW 16X MaxWrite. I am writing to a 24X CD...does this make any difference? My CD-RW Drive (D Settings are checked to "enable CD recording on this drive" ..."image of CD to be stored on Drive C:". Write speed: 16X.
Hardware: default setting is: ST340810A - Type: Disk drives.
I notice that under Hardware there is also "Samsung CD-R/RW SW-224B -Type: DVD/CD-R"...I have tried to change this setting to the Samsung CD-RW SW-224B, (don't know if this helps??) but it keeps going back to the ST340810A default. I would appreciate any input. Thanks.
