Dec 26, 2005 10:47AM PST

I want to be able to access my daughter IM log files. Are they .tmp files found in windows folder? If so, How can I open them?

To my knowledge AIM does not automatically log all connections, or keep records as to their content. (You'd have to set the account preferences to automatically save all communications.) However, there are programs available that will intercept any/all AIM communications that pass through the local AIM client. clicking here notes a few, with IMArchive and AIM Monitor looking like you can use them as freeware. (IMArchive simply prevents you from deleting saved logs as the restriction until you buy it.)

Hope this helps,
John

If you

If you are the administrator

uninstall all Instant Messaging Servises

also block them from using aim express

http://www.aim.com/

Now go

http://www.download.com/Trillian/3000-2150-10047473.html

and download Trillian.

It keeps a log of all conversations. It can be opened with notepad. After installation, to locate these logs

Right click start

left click explore

click on program files

click on trillian

click on users. The first person to use it will be default. Names after that will have names.

click on name, logs, query. This is where the logs are kept. If you want to check them often, then right click on query, click on copy and paste shortcut to an easier location. This can be done for each user however you will need to put each in a different folder since the name on query is used all the time.

Hope this helps.
