Reading Japanese filenames

May 12, 2005 5:08AM PDT

I'm using knoppix so I can transfer all my files to an external hard drive before I reinstall windows on my computer, but unfortunately I have a bunch of files with the names in Japanese (I'm going to a Japanese university so I need to write my papers in Japanese) and knoppix won't even show them.

Anyone know how to make it so I can view files that are in a foreign language (Japanese)?

Sound good but...

How can I rename them if I can't see them in the first place?

Is there a Japanese version of Knoppix that I don't know about or something? I can't get onto Windows at all so there's no other way I can rename them. Which is why I'm asking, is there any way I can view files with Japanese file names through knoppix?

That would have been really easy for me to do... sometimes I just completely forget about the most obvious things. Thanks once again! Seriously this has definitely saved me

Please tell if it fixes it.

This way I can remember this one for the next person who asks.
