I got hold of a bad Samsung TV model LN32B530. It went out on me after 5 months.
I called the Samsung service line. They told me that since the TV was smaller than 37", that I had to ship it 1500 miles away to a service center AT MY OWN EXPENSE! They have the gall to call this "carry in service".
I decided I'd rather throw the Samsung in the trash than spend the next month beating my head against the wall (or end up with some scratched up "reconditioned" unit with bad pixels). But while shopping for a new TV at Best Buy, the salesman there suggested that since I bought the Samsung at Best Buy that I should call the Best Buy service line.
Long story short, Best Buy offered to come out to my house and do the in warranty service for free, even though I did not buy the Best Buy protection plan.
My opinion of Best Buy went up about 5 notches. My opinion of Samsung is now (shall we say) lower. This is after buying Samsung loyaly for almost 10 years including 3 TVs, 3 DVD/Blurays, and 3 LCD monitors. The TV isn't fixed quite yet (will take a week to get the parts), but so far I'd grade it...
Best Buy : A+
Samsung : C-
I was a big Sony fan until I got a long run of dud products from them in the 1990's. I swapped to Samsung around 2001. I really hope that Samsung isn't the new Sony.
