Re: spellchecker. Um...can anybody help please?

by emmazed / October 12, 2008 5:36 AM PDT

Hi, I was gifted an Acer travelmate 4230 laptop last year and have had no problems until a few months ago when I was typing a document and a dialog box popped up. In my short sighted wisdom I choose to ignore the message and clicked "yes" without actually reading it. Since then (no matter what I try) Word tells me that spell check is working but it clearly is picking up zero spelling errors but does still pick up punctuation. I have just started university and obviously cannot afford to hand in essays etc with potential spelling errors. Please help!

I'm afraid I cannot give you too many specifics about the computer as I'm not sure what the operating system etc means! I am using Microsoft Word 2007 if that helps at all. I have tried pressing F7 and repeatedly searching through the options but it has come to no avail. It also has a sticker on it saying it is "designed for Windows XP".

Many thanks in anticipation,

Emma(UK).

p.s the spellcheck works on this page and others just not Word.

of various problems including conflicts with several programs, had problems appear after MS Updates, interfering w/ E-Mail etc.

Seems you have a spell check that works on internet reply boxes but not locally.

Here are some search results you might check to see IF any apply to you:
Word on VISTA lost spell check & others:

More specifically on spellcheck & 2007 problems:

Does this help?
by MarkFlax Forum moderator / October 12, 2008 6:22 PM PDT

Try this Microsoft Discussion Group forum, Word 2007 Spell Checker stopped working.

Scroll down to the first reply by DeanH. He starts off with Word 2003 suggestions, but then continues with advice for Word 2007.

There may be other suggestions below that post.

Do you want to know more details about your Operating System? If so, find your "My Computer" icon on the display, highlight it then right click it, (use the right click button on your mouse), then select Properties. The new window you see will give you a lot of much needed information about your system.

I hope that helps.

Mark

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
