Question

RE: Samsung or Sony 4K TV?

Sep 16, 2016 9:09AM PDT

I have been looking at the Sony XBR65X850D and the Samsung UN65KS8000FXZA. Primary watch streaming movies, sports and general tv. Just trying to decide which of these may work best, or which you would recommend as they are pretty close in price.

When I chat with reps from Crutchfield & ABT appliance, they all seem to prefer Sony even though the Samsung model seems to get better online reviews.

Thanks for your thoughts/comments....

And why I don't give them a clear win.

Samsung is pushing hard their quantum dot tech. Reviews and what I see tell me I'd like OLED or plasma (dead tech) better than Samsung's quantum dots.

I'm not saying it's bad. But given a choice, my eyes go for the Sony.

I went with Samsung

I cannot speak about this year's crop, but three years ago I opted for a Samsung simply because numerous online retailers were discounting the Samsungs far more deeply than anyone was discounting the comparable Sonys. I had previously been a Sony guy, dating back to the old Trinitrons.

And even though it's three years old now, the picture quality on my Samsung UN65HU8550 TV still knocks my socks off -- every time I turn the thing on, even now, it takes my breath away.

And of course it has been dead reliable, but so have been the Sonys. And I prefer the user interface on the Samsungs to the Sony Xross design.

But if I were buying a TV today, I would bite the fiscal bullet and go for the LG OLED. Nothing compares.
