...from ATI, is an RF (Radio Frequency, not infra red) so it can work through walls, and over relatively huge ranges.
The software allows it to control loads of multimedia applications too. These came bundled with ATI's All-In-Wonder graphics cards in the past, and are actually X10 compatible wireless devices. Have a google for X10 for other clever remote contorl things.

As far the the Media Centre remotes...the one person I know who has a MC PC said it only came bundled with MC software, which I'd think would know the difference and baulk at installing on other OS's.

Hi all --
I am running Windows XP SP2 and have a large mp3 collection. I am experimenting with using my computer as alternative stereo system and wanted to know about getting an infrared remote control for the PC that would work with playing CDs/DVDs/MP3s, etc. from programs within Windows.
I see that Windows XP Media Center has a remote control that comes with it. My question is can this control be used on systems not running Media Center? Or are there other infrared remote controls that can serve my purpose. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Marc
