Re-occuring crashes

Mar 15, 2012 3:07PM PDT

Hello All,

I had a clean installation of my XP SP3 O/S recently done on my desktop. I do not know how to sent my system information to you because my system keeps constantly crashing whenever I access a web page on the internet. I am using a laptop to write this post.

subsequent to the said installation I connected my Seagate Free Agent external drive to the desktop but it refused to function. I tried autoplay but the system crahsed. Thereafter I today turned on my webcam and in so doing the system crashed and now it keeps crashing every time I access a web page. If I am not using the web nothing happens.

I have been getting a blue screen, "Windows has shut down to protect your computer etc. I reboot, send error report to microsoft. I am advised that the report is corrupted. I am directed to things to try. I have scanned for viruses. Did disc checks and have tried to follow directions given me but to no avail. It has been suggested that the problem may be with my video adapter or hardware and/or software problems.

In the mean time I shall be happy if I could be advised as to how to get the system and blue screen info to you so you can assist me with the problem.

I am very weary of the techies here. They never finish their work properly and blead you.

Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanking you.

Re: crashes
Mar 15, 2012 7:10PM PDT

I'd do a clean installation of XP again, Quite a lot seems to be wrong.
If you can't do it yourself and don't like the tech, find another one or consider making a very fresh start by buying a Windows 7 PC.

In the log I see a lot of software (software that I don't use) giving errors the past month:
- SASDIFSV service
- Roxio hard drive Watcher 9
- CD ROM burning service
- VideoCap
- SuperAntiSpyware hangs
- ESENT hangs

And other errors:
- a bad CD
- your router doesn't want to communicate with your network card (should result in no Internet available, not necessarily in IE crashing, unless there's an add-on that doesn't like such a situation)

There's nothing that stands out as the cause of troubles.

Re-occuring crashes
Mar 16, 2012 1:47AM PDT

Hi kees,

Thank you for your reply. I totally agree that a clean install should be done. After I saw the system log I was so suprised that all these things were happening. I also think that I should install Windows 7. I shall be installing the program from microsoft which will tell me about the compatability of my programs with W7. I know I have a choosen few about 2 that may not work.

Your post has been very helpful and thanks a mil. for the same. I will post to let you know the end result.

Best regards
