Now I can only think of:

Download and run HijackThis - get it here:

http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates: "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the link below.

http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

and post your "hijackthis.log". There are the experts and they will tell you what to do.

Good Luck!

Pls. let us know if it resolves your problems.

Kiwi problem with Explorer error in RESJAA.DLL. file
Feb 21, 2004 2:17AM PST

as mentioned to you in your prior post, the file you have indicated is not known to the best of information sources, such as Google, dll-world and Microsoft.

yet you seem to have it.

Two things come to mind that you can do to try and eliminate this, short of a reformat.

1. go to start> run> type in MSCONFIG> click ok.

you will now have a screen with several tabs called 'general'; winini; and startup.

have a look through all items under each tab and see if you can find this *.dll you are having trouble with.

if it is there uncheck it.

re-boot and you will be OK.

if it is not there.......

2. go to start> run> type in REGEDIT. under the EDIT tab you wil find a search function called 'find'.
type in the name of the file as you have indicated and 'enter'.

this will scan your registry looking for this value.

if found click on it and 'delete'.

you do not need to back up your registry because you are looking for a specific item/ value.
lease post back with results.

Would love to use the hammer...on flatmate! Happy I learned today he also had d/l hijackthis and not knowing how to use it correctly may have inadvertantly deleted something he shouldn't have he did have the commonsense enough to backup all deleted files, is there any way I can restore them all? ... hopefully this is the cure as I also tried the start - run - regedit - delete option rebooted and the error popped back on screen. I am sooo sorry to be a nuisance, I just wish he'd told me days ago it could have avoided so much of this

Do I remember correctly it is a winme computer??

If yes, you can restore the computer to an earlier date!

Start > Programs > accessories > system tools > system restore and look for a date BEFORE the files were deleted.

No problem, hope we can find a way to get rid of the error pop-upsHappy Keep smiling if you don't want to use the hammer Wink

Wonder if this would help??
Feb 21, 2004 3:13PM PST

If you are not able to start your system (normally or in safe mode), there is another trick you could try:

Start your computer by using the Windows Me Startup disk
From the Startup menu, choose Minimum Boot
At the command prompt, type edit c:\windows\system.ini, and then press [Enter]
Edit the shell= line so that it reads:
shell=progman.exe

Press [Alt]+[F], and then press S to save the changes to the System.ini file
Press [Alt]+[F], and then press X to exit the editor
Remove your Windows Me Startup disk, and restart your computer. When your computer restarts, Program Manager should start.
On the File menu, click Run, type msconfig in the Command Line box, and then press [Enter]
Click the Launch System Restore button (on the General tab) to begin restoring your computer to a previous, functional state
Note: Since the System.ini file is one of the files that will be restored, you will not have to change the shell= line back to it's original state, that will be done when System Restore restores the file to a previous version.

i have been following this with some interest and I am not sure because the thread split if it has been suggested.

if you have not already done so please go to
http://www.moosoft.com
and download and run 'The Cleaner'.

this is a Trojan scanner and will scan your PC for anything that has been planted that is triggering this unknown file.

please post back.

I have posted your problem in another forum that has some very knowledgeable people as well.

if you go to

http://www.dslreports.com

look for Security on the left side of the screen and then 'forum'.

you will find my post and responses.

my post is under the name dawillie_99,

you will need to register and login to add to it.

please have a look as I believe the reader base there may be bigger.

it may be that you may eventually have to re-format but that is a final option when all other fails.

how did you wind up with 700+ Torjans on your system?

Hello again I never marked the boxes under scan before doing it last night so am about to run it again Happy thanks for that I'm not really up with touching buttons etc for fear I may do some type of damage (a lesson my flatmate could undertake Im sure!)... David as for the Trojans all 269 of them were found while scanning one of my flatmates games he has on the computer "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" and thank you also for your committment to trying to get to the cause of my troubles, I do appreciate you both very much and will definitely take a look at the other forums comments. Thanks again. Happy

Shirley,

X Cannot import sys.reg: Error opening the file. There may be a disk or file system error.

Can you open the sys.reg file by Notepad?
What does it contain?

Try to find out which executable (system32 folder) creates the sys.reg file at startup (use msconfig).
It is very likey that this .exe file is a 'bad thing' and can be removed without any consequences.
But then your problems are probably not over!
You might also need to remove in the regestry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run)the key that calls this executable!

Yep, keeping fingers crossed Wink

Hi there everyone Happy Well the inevitable happened I started up the computer the following day from posting my last thread and nada! Happy *hugz and flowers all around!!* I truly do thank you one and all who offered help and support to me when I was one step short of anihalating the entire computer. I know where to come for help in the future and have passed on your site to everyone I know that has problems. Thanks again I will be back Wink
