Due to a home page hi jack i re installed my ME o\s and all the Microsoft works suite 2000 programmes, all except word were re installed, an error message 'internal error 2349 contact vendor' came up, Tech help from the Dell supplier has been no good, they direct me to the Microsoft web site, they will not respond as the system was factory installed, I believe that this is a known Microsoft problem, especially with re installation from a dvd,Any suggestions on how i can recover 'word', I did not re format my disc, so all the original files and folders are on my hard drive. To date I have tried copying the re installation disc to my hard drive, with no success.any help please

Try the usual.

As to it being a known problem, I agree. The current plague of spyware is becoming more virulent but you seem to think Microsoft "knows" what broke in that spyware infection. Sadly, this is not the case and a compromised system may not have a ready fix.

For now, try the usual. Delete the NORMAL.DOT file and try again.

If you need a nearly same-as Word wordprocessor, install Open Office from http://www.openoffice.org until your system finds a repair.

Again, expecting Dell or Microsoft to know what that spyware did or how to "fix" without wiping out the OS is ... wishful thinking.

Thanks Bob, Can you expand on the delete the NORMAL.DOT' file please. When I run the 'find files and folders' there is nothing found.

Have you tried the cleanup...

tool available here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

Sometimes a cleanup then reinstallation does the trick.

Sometimes the problem happens when you install using a DVD reader abut doesn't happen with the same CD if used in a CD-ROM drive. Do you have a CD-ROM you could try the installation from?

If the software came with the computer it is normally OEM software and it is the vendor's responsibility to provide all necessary support.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
