Re HP Excuse "Not Many Have Smart Phones"

So sorry that HP says they can't fix your laptop. I'm starting a new thread for this so I can stop tracking mine that didn't fix my problem. I may look up and phone a Printer Repair service in Dearborn, see how much it would cost to replace a worn out USB plug on my other 1310 Series All in One.

Back to YOUR problem, is it too late to just return it to the STORE like any other kind of merchandize, and not even mention the hassle with HP?

Is there a 30-day time limit for returns, or no time limit??????????

You could maybe at least get your money back and use it for another brand. Won't you please give it a try? I for one understand your letting your frustration with HP make you forget this important OPTION, Bob.Will you keep us posted on how it comes out? I had to just mention Small Claims Court, remember, gently, as if I was just thinking out loud. They might call a manager who'd agreed, Give him a refund. Isn't it worth a try?

The longer story is

After 14+ hours on the phone and shipping and HP's support saying "We've done all we could" they walked. This was at the 3 month point of ownership.

At that time my work had me flying more to overseas so I got another laptop from the office and moved on. Over the next 6 months I answered all HP queries about the repair with "the unit was not repaired" along with a fail in all categories. A few phones meet with the same I see we already fixed it and so I stopped doing that.

At 9 months it was clear HP had no intention of fixing the issue or the laptop so I gave it to the office for good and chalked it up to a company gone bad.

Then an HP Social Rep here noticed my story and contacted me and I emailed all the docs I have on this but as the laptop is no more she couldn't fix that or assure me that the ORIGINAL ISSUE would not exist in the next HP laptop.

-> Even if they fixed the laptop, the ORIGNAL ISSUE is one HP can not address it seems and that is something folk should be aware of.

For me this is not a disaster but could be for others. HP has lost me for a very long time.

Thanks for warning others that some of these issues can't be fixed. Sorry we didn't find out about this problem until too late to suggest at least getting your money back from the store.

So the problem's resolved but not in a good way, right?

I've about given up on mine too, but did write to my son who has a computer degree from U of M and no time for this sort of thing. I mailed it, this afternoon. Just maybe he'll try that reinstalling of .NET framework 2.0 for me, and try to find a parts store that would have the little square USB plug for my best of the two 1310 printers. They just don't make them anymore as good as that one's been, and as attractive. Sorry to say this but I just don't like the crude looks of all the newer ones. His brother has a printer problem too, probably similar.

For those that want to try this on other laptops or even desktops, look for a PC with the "Insyde" BIOS. Many of those have this flaw where you can plug in your iPhone or Android phone and the machine will hang on boot. No BIOS setting INCLUDING "disable USB" will let the machine boot.

Since HP does not write their own BIOS or control this in any way, this means they have no means of correcting the issue.

-> I can only guess their support staff don't own smart phones so they can't understand why a bug like this is unacceptable. For me all our Dells, Samsungs and other PCs that didn't use the Insyde BIOS were fine and about half the machines I find to do this test with that BIOS seem to work OK too. So it's a shame that such a bug is left in so many machines and companies like HP no longer can correct product flaws.

As a grandmother, many of whom won't even try computers, I naturally don't know anything about smart phones or bios, just have a plain old cell phone for emergencies, but will know to avoid HP Laptops if I ever want a laptop.

Probably you don't have time for Facebook, but if you could make the time, publicizing this info there just might do some good. Facebook is pretty powerful. Maybe HP would have to learn how to fix the problem you're revealing.
