Re-formating error

Aug 28, 2005 11:25PM PDT

I recently attempted to reinstall XP on my computer in an attempt to clean up my PC. I decided to install XP Pro over my Home edition. However i completed the installation and if i try to log onto my PC i recieve an message saying:

"A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer Error code 0x80070002"

Since then i have attempted to use XP boot disks to get my PC to a state where i can attempt to repair it however after using the XP Pro boot disk i was told that "Serenum.sys" was corrupted. I then attempted to use the XP Home boot disks only to be informed that "sbp2port.sys" was corrupt.

Is there any way to perform a clean formating of my PC, i have no disks to restore my PC to an early state so i was attempting to install a new OS in the hope it would give my PC a clean platform in which to run off. however i can now not even access anything past the XP user log-on area as i recieve the error message and then am returned to the log-on screen again. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to waht i should do?

Ok now this is entirely my fault i was given 2 methods to fix the problem and i chose the more risky of the 2. i chose to follow this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223188/

which cahnges your drive letters around so i changed my "C :"and "D:" arond now the PC wont even get onto the log on screen. is there anyway to reset the drive letters so that i can use the other method which im confident will work.

When you change the drive letters you will have to

revise the path for all of the .exe files that load the subject application. Not very hard if you don't have numerous programs. Basically right click on the executable file, it will show the path, with luck you will only hace to edit it by changing the letter of the drive.

Be certain you set XP to show all files including th sytem files that XP tells you the world might end if you look at them. LOL

Use the instructions from the Elder Geek site, ''Clean Install Procedure with Illustrative Screen Captures.''

Note: Since you want be concerned whether XP will run or not during the procedure -- the second half of your statement in the paragraph above -- it doesn't matter as you'll see from the above link.
