Re-Enabling Index

Nov 5, 2009 4:07AM PST

So I made a slight mistake. I changed the location where Search Index files are stored to a separate drive. And then today, I changed the drive letter of that hard disk.

And now indexing is disabled. Windows will not let me re-enable it through Services > Windows Search, and I cant choose a new location through Indexing Options.

I would like to turn this function back on, but have no idea what to do next.

Thanks!!!

Unfortunately, that second link you sent is my exact problem, and it is still unresolved. Windows will not allow me to change the location of the indexing.

So after reading further about Indexing, I have simply chosen to disable it for now.

Sorry. Did you try Option 2.

It didn't use the controls that you told the forum were greyed out.

Yes

I tried that. It made no change. I am still unable to change the location of where the Indexing should be done.

I just tried to run a search on my computer. Win7 recommended I turn on indexing, so I did (just to try). It seems like it is running now, but when I go to Indexing Options, I still have everything greyed out, and cannot change the location for indexing, or even see what the current location is.
