I now cannot run Spybot at all despite redownloading and starting over . All I now get is Error in a warning box and Bot will not even start . I suspect that this is an operating system problem .Mine is ME so I'm stuffed as Microsoft have withdrawn support and offer no upgrades at all.

Used a bit of lateral thinking . I have tuneup utilities which seems to work ok but I decided to reinstall Norton utilities , ran it , found program integrity problems which it fixed . Went back to Spybot updated ok ran the check but it stopped and referred to a Windows common hijacker ,could not run as program in use by another program , so I took Norton off re ran Spybot now ok and completed a check .No mention of bad checksum . Still think this all to do with general weakness of ME.

Sorry to say, but bad checksum has nothing to do with "general weakness of ME

The reason for it with SpybotS&D is:

During update, I get an error message the update is forbidden / bad checksum!!!
Some user have reported they are not able to download updates. The 'Search for updates' reveals updates, but they cannot be downloaded. Often a 'HTTP Error 403' or 'bad checksum' is displayed. This has a simple reason - thousands of people trying to download from the default server, which can't handle such a burden. If you try again, have a second look at the menu bar. It has a pull-down item to select a mirror. Click the arrow beside it, and select a different location, where you'll most probably have better chances to download. (Spybot-S&D 1.3 will set a random mirror as the default to better distribute the load)

Current problems with the main installer download have the same reason - the servers not being able to handle such large amounts of visitors. Even the University isn't able to deal with many thousands of downloads at the same time. Please have some patience; more mirrors are being added again.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
