You're doing ok.

But when asked for the file contents. Either share or write that you can't or need more instructions.

Some can't edit a file, which almost puts that level of skill at the mercy of a trip to the repair shop. You are doing better than that.

thanks (thought you had left me...)
lets try to get things straight
you asked me for the system.ini file
I opened the (diagnostic mode) file with the Run applet and sent it to you
then I found out that under the system.ini tab, the 3 first lines are trash
you asked me for the file under a Normal startup
trouble is, I cant do it without a cursor
have I missed anything?

That explains it well.

To get the SYSTEM.INI without the mouse cursor, there are more than a few ways. Go with what you feel comfortable with.

1. The Notepad way. I can press Control-Escape, then use the arrow keys up to the Run, then press enter. Type in (most machines!) the following...

NOTEPAD C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI

Press Alt-F to get the File menu. Now use the arrow buttons to the Save As and then save it as C:\tempsys.ini NOW we have a temporary copy to use in the working MSCONFIG mode for you to place in the Forum for dissection.

2. Anoter way is to Press Control-Escape, R (for run) and type

COPY C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI C:\TEMPSYS.INI

There are spaces that don't show well after each COPY and before the C:

NOW that we have a copy of the "real" SYSTEM.INI, send the contents of C:\TEMPSYS.INI to the thread we have all the info.
