Where in the process?
Oct 4, 2006 10:09AM PDT

Where exactly in the process does it freeze?
1.) On the screen asking you to enter the product key.
2.) Choosing the partition.
3.) Copying Windows Files.
4.) Expanding files (before restart).
5.) Expanding files (after restart).
6.) Installing features.
7.) Installing updates.
8. Completing installation.
9.) During setup.

Activation does not occur until after Vista is installed and set up...in the first stage of the installation you have to enter the product key but it's just comparing it against the internal algorithm to ensure validity before proceeding.

Not normal...
Oct 4, 2006 10:48AM PDT

Activation of Office 2007 seems to analyze the key character-by-character because it validates it almost a fraction of a second after you enter the last character. Vista isn't that 'efficient,' but it only took about 4 seconds to validate after entering my key. In all it took a little over 30 minutes to go from launching the installer to Vista's desktop after setup. Hopefully it was just a small hangup during your installation and not an indication of a glitch in the algorithm function.

Asked me to reinstall
Oct 4, 2006 10:52AM PDT

It took long enough to come to the point it did and then ask me to reinstall. This was a Disc from Microsoft.

If I start the installation from when Windows reboots I have to use Costom.
lf I start it from windows desktop I have a choice.

What should I do I wish not to lose my software that I installed. But if I have to so Vist RC1 will work corectly I will.

RC1
Feb 10, 2007 10:55PM PST

RC1 is a BETA version of Vista...not the final version and it has not been completed....you can not update that version to the final addition. Microsoft is not fixing RC1. Buy the final version.

try converting drive to dynamic from basic...

right click on my computer, click on manage, click on disk manager. Click on the physical drive on the left that you boot from (usually disk 0). click on convert to dynamic.
