Random signal sync

Jun 2, 2009 1:21PM PDT

I have a new PN58B560 and I am seeing random sync issues. When I first got the tv I was using a new outside HDTV antenna for locals and HD. At random intervals the screen goes black and the input windows shows up and then the resolution fills in and the picture comes back. I thought it was the signal strength, even though I am only a few miles from most of my local channels.
I had a FIOS HD DVR installed and now I see the same issue on HDMI1 input also.
It happens 2-3 times an hour and is annoying.
Could it be my signal or is it the TV? I don't know if there is a setting for signal lock or something that could get it to hold the signal better or if I could have signal strength issues on multiple inputs.

arkay01,

Does this happen on all HD signals, or just a few of them?

Also, is this happening on any other inputs? Have you tried using a different HDMI input?

It doesn't happen when watching DVDs on HDMI2. We watch blue rays and regular dvds and have not seen it happen. I have replaced the HDMI cable from the FIOS HD DVR to HDMI1 and will monitor the signal. It will take another week to verify, I won't be watching much this week.
I will question the cheap cable from monoprice before the tv. All my HDMI cables are from them right now.

I tried using a different HDMI cable and the problem persisted. Then I moved the FIOS TV input from HDMI1 to HDMI3 and the problem moved with it. I am wondering if it might be the coax cabling or the signal itself.
As I stated, this never happens while watching a DVD of any type on the Samsung Blue Ray player I have connected to HDMI2.
I do run the digital coax audio from output on the FIOS TV box to my Bose 321 system. When the re-sync happens I do not have any audio hiccup from the stereo. I do not listen to the audio from the TV, so I can't say if the audio cuts out there when the re-sync happens.

arkay01,

I have read up on what is going on with your issue and wonder if the HDMI cable you are using for Fios is v1.3? Also, if you are going to run the audio from the Fios box to the Bose system, can you turn off the HDMI audio signal going from the Fios box to the TV?

All of my cables are new monoprice cables. They said they were 1.3a certified.
I will look at the FIOS HD DVR for audio routing options. I have not seen any so far.

Sync issue

It continues to drive me crazy. It isn't too often, but still it can happen at critical times in a show. I don't know what to do. Can Verizon test signal for random errors or signal integrity?

I have a LN52A860 television and had experienced similar issues with the TV suddenly losing the picture (screen goes black) and then getting the signal back. It almost appeared that the TV was cycling thru a power cycle. After reading the issues discussed in this forum, and trying different HDMI cables and inputs (HDMI1, HDMI2, etc.) all to no avail, I seem to have solved the problem. I connected my cable box vis component cables and haven't had a problem since.

Not sure if it would work for everyone but at least in my case the TV hasperfomed flawlessly since switching to comnponent.

gandalf1369,

Then it may very well be the HDCP causing this issue. It's hard to pinpoint with certainty in every case.

I tried all my HDMI ports and bought more HDMI cables from different sources and nothing helped. The Blue Ray and X-Box never have this problem.
Finally got a hold of Verizon and explained this as their issue. The rep says he rebooted and reloaded my DVR box. It worked flawlessly for about two days. Now it still does it but a lot less often. I now am confident that it is in the DVR and if it continues or gets worse I will request a new DVR or get them to drop the early termination fee and go back to Direct Tv.
