I am currently having a problem with my computer maintaining a steady network connection while I'm playing online games. I've tried everything that I can think of and look up and I'm kinda at my wit's end. Any suggestions would help.
I moved into a new apartment about 1.5 years ago and have been having problems with my wifi the whole time. I do not have the option to use ethernet, so I have to use a wi-fi adapter. I have a desktop and my wife has a laptop, we play the same games, have done the same things, we sit right next to each other and she has never had the problems that I have, so I think that the actual network and distance to the router are not problems.
My issue presents itself like this: I get a new wifi adapter and for the first few months it works great. I have no problems with any of the online games that I play and I think all is well. After a few months, however, I start noticing complications. It starts off with small variances in network performance, but eventually grows into what basically feels like high jitter/packet loss. It continues getting worse over time, until I start getting disconnected from online games and I eventually break and buy a new wifi adapter. Basically, it feels like my computer slowly vampires my wifi adapters until they're dead.
Further information: to date, I have only used usb adapters, not ones that actually plug into the motherboard. All of my usb ports seem to work perfectly normal. I have gone through 2 EDUP usb wifi adapters, and I am currently on a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 which has begun experiencing the same issues. All of them started out performing perfectly fine. I have connected them to usb, usb 2.0, and usb 3.0 with no fix for the problem. I have updated all drivers, reinstalled all software, disabled letting the computer temporarily turn off the device to save power, and a bunch of other "quick Youtube fixes." Additionally, my wife's wifi adapter in her laptop is not any sort of incredible quality, so I don't think it's a matter of just buying a better adapter. Does this sound like an issue that anybody has had before? Any help would be appreciated. I'm willing to provide any further information needed. Thanks.
