Since the freeze is temporary, causes can include:
1. A network share that is offline.
This one is annoying. You connect to some other drive on a machine and if the other machine is off, windows may check to see if it's there. Delays in online games will occur. (Same for printer shares.)
2. Your machine has some parasite/pest.
Scan the machine with the Anti-Parasite Suite noted at http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0 Eject the pests.

Ok, when I play any and all of my games both singler and multiplayer, i encounter random freezes that happen every minute or two. These freezes last for around 10 seconds, then gameplay goes back to normal. When its not frozen, i have really high FPS. I am very desperate because I have absolutely ran out of ideas.
Heres what I've done:
*Tried lowering resolution, quality etc.
*Tried killing unecessary tasks in the background
*Tried every sort of driver for my machine; chipset, video, audio, ethernet
*Pulled my modem cuz it was sharing a same IRQ with my graphics card
*Tried Gentoo Linux, Windows 2000, Windows XP Home(Primary)
*Made sure i had DX9b
I know i failed to list some, but I'm out of ideas! My computer was working just fine with all the hardware until one day.. I've done countless fresh installs and countless combinations of drivers
Here are my specs:
P4 1.7 Ghz
Intel 845G Chipset
640 Mb Ram
GeForce 4 Ti 4400
SoundMax Digital Integrated Audio
Windows XP Home
