ram test

Jan 31, 2004 12:30AM PST

hello,

I have a problem with this pc (533mhz, 128mb, 8gb, win98se)

I sometimes get a blue screen after I boot it up cold.

I tried booting into safe m yesterday, but it said it found a bad memory address @ c000... & it didn't continue. It finallly booted into normal after a few resets.
I added a 16mb video card about 8 or 9 months ago. The pc works fine after it warms up.

Anyone know where to get a memory test app?

What else should I try?

thanks,

Mike

"The pc works fine after it warms up."

It's either a part that is now temperature sensitive or the old BAD CAPACITOR SYNDROME. Oper the case and reseat all the parts, cards, cables and remove the dust bunnies.

While inside, look for failing capacitors like you read about at http://www.badcaps.net/ for pictures. Be aware that a new board is your cheaper fix most of the time.

Here's the scoop
Feb 1, 2004 1:37AM PST

When I boot up, a lot of times I get:(blue screen, windows is almost fully loaded)
'terminating thread due to stack overflow. a vxd, possbily recently installed, has consumed too much stack space. increase the setting of minsps in system.ini, or remove recent vxd's. there are currently 4 sps allocated.'
I checked the system.ini, & didn't find a minsps listing.

Switsh off the system,Clean the RAM Slot on motherboard and then re install the RAM and check the system.if problem still exist change the RAM and then check.
This problem is occured due to RAM problem or sometimes may be due to hard disk. Therefore first try to solve by changing RAM and then Hard disk.
