RAM Question

Jul 17, 2005 6:15PM PDT

Hey, I'm looking to upgrade my RAM soon, right now I have PC3200 512MB DDR, and I'm looking to go right up to 2gb. I have a few questions though before I do anything..

1. Can I upgrade to DDR2? or is there a better choice?
2. I don't understand the PC part and if I should go higher or lower with the number

THANKS!

Re: DDR2

DDR2 is only supported in Intel Processors thus making you buy another motherboard that supports the DDR2 memory

DDR2 FSB is quite faster just by 200 most likely higher is better only for gaming use and multimedia use

you can check out http://www.tigerdirect.com/ site or
http://www.newegg.com/ site for supported DDR2 motherboards

no ddr2 for you

if you have a mobo with pc3200, it will not support ddr2.
there is not a huge performance gain either so dont worry about it.

400mhz (pc3200) is probably the highest supported so stick with that.

corsair mushkin kingston are good brands

only DDR

DDR for you only.

As for DD2, it's only faster at 667MHZ. DDR2 533MHZ is still slower than DDR 400MHZ due to lag.

How many slots do you have. Assuming you only have 2, dump your 512 and get 2 1GB sticks at PC3200(DDR400).

I have a P4 3.Ghz so I'm not sure if that would make any difference to one of the replies earlier
