RAM compatability question

Aug 29, 2010 2:11AM PDT

I've got a dead Compaq Presario S6000NX that I have a 512MB stick of RAM in it that I bought from Crucial about four or five years ago (and is installed along with the 256MB that came with it). The Part number is CT6464Z40B.K8TKY, and if you google the first part of the part number (CT...B) you'll come up with the Crucial page on that item (not sure whether posting a link is okay so I'll err on the side of caution). Specs are

Package: 184-pin DIMM
Feature: DDR PC3200
Specs: DDR PC3200 ? CL=3 ? Unbuffered ? NON-ECC ? DDR400 ? 2.6V ? 64Meg x 64 ?

Despite the fact that they still have a page for this part, when I run the Crucial memory select program for my old computer, that particular part no longer appears as an option, though I know that I used the same program, years ago, to select it.

Meanwhile, I have a Compaq Presario SR1500NX that I'd like to add some RAM to. When I run the Crucial program that detects memory, it brings up an option that sound pretty much identical to the part above: 512MB, 184-pin DIMM, DDR PC3200
? CL=3 ? Unbuffered ? NON-ECC ? DDR400 ? 2.6V ? 64Meg x 64 ?

So should I try popping the stick into the functioning computer, or will I mess something up that way?

Looks like it should work....give it a try and let us

know the outcome.

VAPCMD

PS .. Just make sure you UNPLUG the PC before starting the install. If you don't there's still power coming to MB.

Thanks!

Thanks for the input! I procrastinated quite a while before getting to this, but finally popped it in today and it seems to work just fine. Unlike every (or nearly every?) other computer I've added RAM to, this one didn't tell me on the first boot that it detected more memory, but it's there when I check the computer properties.

Thanks again.
