RAM and Manufacturers

Oct 19, 2004 12:41PM PDT

I've been buying parts for a built computer for a while now, and I'm thinking about getting a pretty good deal at Staples (it's on sale). Anyway, the RAM is PNY PC2700 512MB for $60. I just wanted to know whether it should work on this PC, since the Staples return policy is terrible.
Here's my PC stats:
Motherboard: Intel D865PERL
Processor: Intel P4 Northwood 2.26 GHz 533 MHz FSB L1/12K+8K; L2/512K cache

Btw, I'm getting PC2700 RAM because since the processor's FSB is 533 MHz, the mobo won't support PC3200 unless I get a processor with an 800 MHz FSB. Also, since I'm not getting the PC until January or so, I won't know whether it works and the return policy window will be dead.

So, is PNY a good company for RAM, and should this RAM work for this PC?

Thanks.

I've heard some trouble with PNY but also Kingston, others.
Why not wait to buy RAM?
also www.newegg.com for better prices, return policy?

PNY is offered by many of the office outlet and dept. store centers. Yeah, its good and all for use within its specs.. The pricing of RAM *may* start to climb once you get into the Xmas season or there maybe deals to be had as supply&demand becomes a huge factor. At least for now pricing has been stable, but again it could change.

The best way to determine what needed is to look at the specs for the mtrbd. Most support website provide a d/l'able manual or quick specs sheet to review, so get it for the mtrbd. model#.

Well, I looked on Newegg, and for the same thing from Crucial, it's $85, which means this sale would save $25. I'm thinking of not getting the RAM though, because if something goes ary, there's nothing I can do. I'll look for sales near XMAS time.

sales with mailin rebates are better than newegg.
Ram sales happen once every 4-6 weeks except older PC133, PC100.

Good idea to wait. In the past I have found good prices at Memory Man http://www.memman.com/. You might try them for price comparison. Fast service also.

Good luck,

Ah ok. If they're THAT frequent, I'll definetly wait. And thanks for the MemoryMan site. It does indeed have good prices and all.
