Any current game when "maxed out" should cause today's PC and video card to stumble. The reason why is simple and has been covered in many articles so I'll keep it short.
Because a game is a multi-million dollar development effort the maxed out settings must have requirements that will be met in years to come. That is as 4K graphics cards with terabyte video memory arrive then the maxed out settings will reveal more detail that we couldn't see today.
I know some want it now, but then games would be out of date in just a few months.

Good day all,
This is my first post, and I am very desperate. Your help will be genuinely appreciated.
I recently purchased a Gigabyte R9 290x with my first paycheque ever, to replace my GTX 560 ti in sli. Now, the system ran fine on my 560's, just a bit slow due to them being outdated. But I could run everything with very comfortable framerates on medium to high but had to stick to low in Battlefield 4 if I wanted 60+ fps.
The moment I put in my 290x, I was very disappointed.
If I max out Black ops 2, I get max 20-25 fps average.
Saint Row 4, maxed out, 40 fps.
Metro 2033 maxed out, barely 20fps.
The only game that performs well is battlefield 4, which gives me on average 50-70 fps (dx3d) and 60-80 (mantle). But from what I understand, people on 290x's are getting more than that.
The reality is that all games are running slower on my 290x, as opposed to my 560's.
I must wonder, is my card defective, or is my system somehow not right for the card? In my inexperienced opinion, if the card was defective, it wouldn't work flat out?
Also, another experience I have, is that Battlefield 4 works well when I start playing right after boot. If I browse online for a bit right after boot, and only start playing an hour later, then I will get horribly low frames with dead poor graphics, even with everything maxed out. Im talking 30fps with the graphics like auto scaling down to low (while the menu still says ultra). Then the game will crash after a few minutes (or seconds).
The final symptom is that if I set my card at a slightly higher core frequency, or speed the fans up just a bit in CCC, then my whole pc will crash and refuse to boot, switching off 10 seconds after getting to desktop each time I boot.
My rig is as follows:
- MSI Global P67A-GD65
- 4x2 gigs Corsair Vengeance 1333mhz
- R9 290x Gigabyte (stock - quiet mode, uber mode doesn't work, pc crashed)
- Old 1TB Seagate HDD
-Coolermaster 850W Silent pro
-Core i7 2600 (non-k) @ stock (3.4ghz)
I would greatly appreciate any help. This really is bothering me.
