Marianna, I have presumed it was the download at:

http://www.pivx.com/qwikfix/

I have had my usual problems with installing Qwik-Fix and have sent the following message to Thor:

Thor, Basil Hall again. I contacted you some months ago about the difficulties I was having downloading and installing QwikFix.

I have just downloaded your newest version but am unable to install. I have been getting two messages:

This advertised application will not be installed because it might be unsafe. Contact your administrator to change the installation user interface option of the package to basic.

And an even stranger one:

The file http//qwikfix.pivx.com./setup/ is not a valid package for the product Qwik-Fix. Try to find the installation package QwikFixSetup.msi in a folder from which you can install Qwik-Fix.

Done a search and it does not exist.

At the moment I do not have the protection of your product. Can you help?

Basil Hall PS I have an hp pav. 6605, running win98 se.

I will keep the forum posted.

Thor at QwikFix

Thor does not seem able to solve the problem. His last message asked if I had administrative privileges which I don't. I can't even reinstall the version I uninstalled to get the "new" version so it's good bye to QwikFix. Damn!

Basil,

could it be there are some "remnants" left from version 0.57?? Did you run jv16 powertools v 195 to get rid of them ??

How about going back as you still had v. 057 running??

Reboot the computer into the MS-DOS mode one of two ways:.
A. If you're in Windows, you can click on Start, Shutdown, then Restart in MS-DOS mode.
B. If you're starting the computer after it has been turned off, start tapping the 'F8' key as the computer starts up or hold down the left CTRL key.
1. This should give you a Windows 98 Startup menu.
2. At the Startup menu, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select option number 5, Command Prompt, and press 'enter'.
3. This should get you to a MS-DOS prompt.
C. At the DOS prompt, type in 'scanreg /restore' and press the enter key.
D. This should give you a blue and grey menu screen.
E. On the menu there will be listings of the registry for different dates.
F. Use the arrow keys and highlight the oldest copy, then press enter..
G. The current registry will be backed up and Windows will try to restore the copy you selected.

Thanks for your suggestion, although it did not work.

I have been offline for two days because when I tried to back up the registry I got stuck in MS-DOS PROMPT and could not get out. I had to spend $50 dollars on my computer man to get it fixed. I have now wiped all the vestiges of QwikFix from my computer and will not bother with it again. I know my computer was to blame for all the muck-ups but I am a little bit angry that a false message led to the series of mishaps and left me $50 out of pocket and without the protection of QwikFix.

Thor has not replied to my last message and does not seem to have an answer.

sorry to hear you had so much problems and on top to dig deep into your pocket to get your computer fixed again. What was the cause you couldn't get out of MS-Dos ?? Was it because of uninstalling Qwik-Fix??

I have no idea, but I can't see how the QwikFix and MS-DOS problems are related. My computer man is the type who fixes problems by replacing chunks of the system without finding out the specifics. It takes less time, and although it would be nice to find out what really went wrong, in the end the problems are fixed.
