Qwest DSL with Mac

Mar 1, 2007 1:08AM PST

I am going to be getting a Mac and have never had DSL. I only have access to Qwest or Earthlink DSL. I am confused as to the Qwest service as MSN is not supported for Macs. One person told me I needed a local ISP, another said the Mac would have all the software I needed, and another implied that I could use the MSN even though it is not supported. Can anyone help me figure out what I need?

Also, if I have a local ISP, can I access E-mail on the road? I now have Earthlink dial-up and need to be able do E-mail from hotels.

DSL / Mac
Mar 1, 2007 8:31AM PST

I just got an iMac in December and Verizon DSL in January. I had never had a Mac or DSL before. Basically, I just installed the filters for the phone jacks and plugged everything in (I did not use the software that came with my welcome package) and to put it simply....it just worked.
I wouldn't worry about MSN not working, everything that I've tried on the Mac has worked fine.
I also set up a wireless connection to a PC for my kids.Took about 5 minutes and off it went!

Mac hard drives killed after qwest broadband install
Feb 4, 2008 4:52AM PST

I recently had a qwest broadband line installed. Within one week of using this, I had two macs (that were working online just fine) have their hard drives crash completely, with no possibility for data retrieval. I lost everything. The mac tech folks had no idea why this happened. The only thing that both computers had in common in that week was that they were plugged in with an ethernet cable to my new qwest/actiontech broadband. Has anyone out there heard of this or had this happen. Could the broadband have zapped my hard drives? Any info anyone has is greatly, greatly appreciated.

Qwest DSL with Mac

Have you gotten your Mac yet? I'm considering the same Qwest DSL plan with my iMac G5 and have the same questions you do: Do I need another ISP since I am told MSN does not support Mac or will my Mac somehow use MSN to connect to the internet? Just wondering what you have found out??

Not yet. I had some other expenses so have to postpone doing anything.
