Quicktime ICON left on task bar

Dec 16, 2003 5:21AM PST

Hi,

Window's '98SE. I had Quick Time viewer installed on my machine. I wanted to remove it, so I went to START-PROGRAMS-QUICKTIME and found an uninstall and did that, which seemed to work fine. I rebooted my machine and there is still a Quick Time ICON left behind on my machine on the task bar, how do I remove that?

Thanks for your help

Hi Josh,

I assume you mean did I right click on the ICON on my Task Bar and yes I did. I get a couple open options & one EXIT option after the right click. When I click on EXIT, the ICON does go away from the task bar but the next time I re-boot, the ICON re-appears on the task bar, so I guess my real question is how do I stop it from re-appearing since the application has been uninstalled?

Thanks,

Steve

By task bar....

do you mean the systray on the right side by the clock? Exit usually implies a running program and that would mean the uninstall didn't work. If that's the case, you could try msconfig to disable the program in startup. Did you check for QuickTime in 'Add/Remove Programs' in the Control Panel? That's the recommended method.

Steve, Check out the Recommendation instructions for "Qttask" at the link below. You probably should have removed it from your taskbar prior to uninstalling it. You may have to reinstall it again then follow the Recommendation instructions to remove it from the taskbar then uninstall it properly from your Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs if possible.

Hi Keith/Larry,

Quick Time was like not installed BUT it was installed, I thought I did the right thing on the uninstall, but as both of you mentioned there is a better way to remove the product. I installed it again and then went to ADD/REMOVE (after EXITING QTIME from what I called the task bar which is yes the SYSTRAY). That of course worked much better, Thanks everyone!
