I found that this problem relates to printers. After re-installing the network printers on this system, to fix other issues, there is no longer the problem with slow exporting of the report. Quickbooks does create an "Intuit printer", and there must have been some problem/use of this printer.
Quickbooks 2005 is slow when exporting a report to Excel. The full problem description is:
- Create a report in Quickbooks.
- Export the report to Excel.
- The system will take 2 minutes to bring up Excel.
Additional diagnostics:
- Excel will appear once and then go away, then come back and be ready for use.
- The system reports low-level network activity at the start of this process, showing 0.6 to 1.0 % network utilization in the XP task manager. There is 0.0% utilization before the export and after Excel is running.
- If the network is disabled, Excel comes up in 5 seconds.
- The task manager does not show Excel as the top CPU process for the whole time it before it comes up.
- Other work in Quickbooks show fine performance and no network traffic.
- Other work in Excel show fine performance and no network traffic.
Additional system info:
- Quickbooks 2005 Pro
- Windows XP Pro
- Older Gateway 700 MHz
- MS Office Pro Enterprise 2003 with volume license
- Full scans for virus and spyware show system clean
