Quick Time Playback no audio

Hey: I need some help. I opened a mpg file in quicktime. It froze the system and I was forced to manualy shut down the system (force quit would not work). When I restarted the system, other mpgs that had played perfectly before now have no audio (indeed all mpgs on my system have no audio and the video seems to lag a bit). All of these files played perfectly before. I tried playing them in Real Player and still no sound. Other programs, like iTunes, play audio fine so I assume there is no problem with my sound preference set up. I have checked the movie properties and insured that the A/V controls are set and mute is not checked. Does anyone have any idea what happened? By the way I am running Quicktime 7 Pro on a iMac G5 2.0Ghz operating Tiger.
Thanks, Alex

A bit more information. Quicktime is still not playing the MPEG-1 files. Quicktime is playing mov files correctly. The MPEGs are playing correctly on MPlayer OS X. The mpegs used to play correctly on Quicktime. Did I accedently change some setting? Anyway to reinable playback on Quicktime?

Re-install Quicktime?

In reply to: update

This is a new one, so I'm just guessing, but I'd re-install Quicktime, and the components (/Library/Quicktime/). Sounds like some bit of a codec got hosed by the forced shut-down.

I still have no idea what happened but I deleted quicktime and then re-installed it and all is well. Still a very strange event. Thanks
