Quick Time Headache

by blindone / January 30, 2006 3:52 AM PST

Long story short,I downloaded QuickTime. It wasn't a complete download as it said it couldn't run on my operating system,Windows 98. Anyway, that's fine,I don't want it,but I can't get rid of it. There is the QuickTime icon in the taskbar, but in the files,in the remove programs,in the start up,in everything, there is nothing I can find to delete this QuickTime. I can click on the icon and exit it,and remove it from the taskbar but each time I restart the computer,it's right back there again. As I said, searching the Remove Programs,it is not listed there,it is not listed when I search files,I cannot find it listed anywhere on my computer but there it is. How can I get rid of this?
Many thanks for any help.

Try this

Choose Start > All Programs > QuickTime > Uninstall QuickTime (Windows XP) or Start > Programs > QuickTime > Uninstall QuickTime (Windows 2000, Me, or 98).

I tried that but there is no QuickTime listed under Programs, none whatsoever. I can't find it listed anywhere whether I look in files or anywhere, yet there it is refusing to go away on the taskbar. Thanks for trying, tho!

Right click on my computer>explorer>C:\Program Files\quick time

Click on start>run>type regedit>Then click on edit>find>type in quick time

blindone, Do a file search for QTTask.exe which is responsible for the Quicktime tray icon. Also you may find it in the registry under Qttask or QTTask.exe.

Thanks so much to everyone for your tips and advice!
You were right,I found it after typing in Qttask.
Grif..to answer your question,it was showing up on the right hand side,in the system tray. After finally getting the right 'wording' I was able to delete it and it is offically gone! Many, many thanks to each of you for your help.

Blindone, Which Side Of Task Bar?

Is the Q icon on the right side (System Tray) or the left side (Quicklaunch Bar)?

If it's showing up in the QuickLaunch Bar, you should be able to delete it by RIGHT clicking on the specific icon, choose "Delete". (You can also naviagate to the "Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch" folder and delete the shortcut listed there.

Hope this helps.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
