quick launch desktop icon

Jun 2, 2004 6:22AM PDT

I don't know what I did. The desktop icon in the quick launch has gone to the desktop and I don't know how to move it back to the quick launch. I've tried to drag it there but I get a black circle with a diagonal line through it, and it goes back to the desktop. I have Me. Thank you.

You are trying to put it in space already used for another icon.
Right click the icon on desktop, drag it to the quick launch area, drag it back and forth until you get a place where the circle and diagonal does not show then either "move here" or "copy here".
If no space is available you may have to expand your quick launch area. Move your cursor just to the right of the two >> until you get the two way arrow then left click and drag right until your quick launch area will hold more icons.
It is possible to have hidden icons in the quick launch area. Just click on the >> or expand the area, per above, and they will come into view.
The larger the visible quick launch area the smaller the task bar.

Whoops, I Goofed

Ignore my response, mulberryrd. I didn't properly read your post. My response did not relate to the desktop icon which is the one in question.

Too late. I did what you said and with a bit of maneuvering it seems to have worked. At least the icon is where I had it before I screwed it up. I couldn't find any hidden icons but I'll keep looking. Anyway, your advice didn't leave me any worse off than I was and I'm happy with the result. Thank you.
P.S. If anything should happen...I'll be back. Happy

Mulberry, Since The Icon Is Still Present on Your Desktop...
Jun 2, 2004 8:02AM PDT

...you should be able simply drag and drop the icon to the "QuickLaunch" folder like this:

RIGHT click on the Start button, choose "Explore". When the Explorer window loads, make sure the screen is a "normal" sized window and not maximized. Now, looking on the left side of the window, double click on the "Windows" folder to expand it, then double click on the "Application Data" folder, then the "Microsoft" folder, then the "Internet Explorer" folder, then the "Quick Launch" folder. On the right side of the window will be all of the Quick Launch icons. Drag the "Show Desktop Icon" from the desktop to the right side of the window and "drop" it with all of the other shortcuts. Close the Explorer window by clicking on the X in the upper right corner and the icon should reappear in your Quick Launch toolbar.

Hope this helps.
