Questions regarding Gigabyte motherboard.

Feb 26, 2004 2:44AM PST

i'm looking at buying the Gigabyte GA-8IK1100 motherboard (http://www.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-8IK1100.htm). does this motherboard have on-board video, or would i have to buy a video card? and what is the difference between the GA-8IK1100 and the GA-8IK1100(Rev 2.0)?

also, i was reading about the i875P chipset at tomshardware.com and on this page (http://www6.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20030414/i875p-04.html) of an article on the i875P chipset are they saying that 2 identical 256MB memory cards is better than 1 512MB card?

thanks.

If you want 512 at 800 MHz FSB you need TWO

sticks of DDR 400 [or faster]256Mb. This is required in order to run in dual channel memory mode.

The memory slots [four or six, not sure how many that your mobo has, mine GA8KNXP has six] will be in different colors. One memory stick goes in the first slot of a color and the other in the first slot of the other color.

I screwed up. Used quotes in the subject line. A no-no

The sticks should be "matched". In this case "matched" simply means the same size, speed, model and brand.

Some memory vendors give a price break for pairs. [total price = less than the sum of two singles].

Are you aware that you can go to the Giga site

and download the manual for any mobo that you are interesrted in. Thus YOU can answer most of your own questions regarding these sophisticated/complex mobos.
