questions on a specific monitor upgrade

I currently use an 18.1" Dell UltraSharp 1800FP LCD monitor.
specs here:

I'm considering getting an Acer AL2216W 22" widescreen LCD monitor
specs here:
http://reviews.cnet.com/Acer_AL2216WBD/4505-3174_7-32082877.html?tag=prod.txt.1

What I currently got is XGA resolution (1024x76Cool on an 18.1" display.
The Acer's native resolution is 1680x1050 on a 22" widescreen display.

Despite having more pixels and bigger size, it appears this Acer will be squeezing more pixels into a smaller area. Can anyone comment on whether or not this would make viewing screen items small enough to be an issue? I'm also trying to find what other resolutions are supported on this monitor. My Dell's XGA resolution is actually below its native res at SXGA (1280x1024). I figure if 1680x1050 on a 22" widescreen isn't 'comfortable' enough for me, I can also just set the res to the next lower level. Any1 know where to find this info?

Thanks!
