Hi Heather.

Do you mean the processes listed in Windows Task Manager when you click CTRL+ALT+DEL and then click the Processes tab?

If so, then try this site;
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

Select a process you want to check, click the alpha options at the top of the web page which is the first character of that process, and then scroll down to find the process.

This will give you some details about what it is and what it does. It can also give some pointers what to do with it.

If you talking about Start-up programs, (Start > Run type in msconfig then click OK, then click the Startup tab), you can check the common startup items here;
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm

Not an easy site to navigate, but it gives valuable information about startup programs.

I hope this helps.

Mark
