Questions about buying a Camcorder

Sep 12, 2013 6:21AM PDT

I'm going to be working on doing a "small" documentary.
I have a budget for a camcorder of about $1000.
I need one that will work in low light and also one that has an input for a stereo mic.

I've been looking at the Canon Vixia HF G20.

Anyone have any recommendations?

What do you mean by low light? How low? Outside at night or indoors?

Most mid range camcorders will pick up light.
You should get a stereo Microphone input for your price range. Look for a headphone socket too so you can monitor the sound the camera hears.

By low light I mean indoors not outside at night.

Then most mid range cameras will work OK. Your Canon is a good choice. I use a Panasonic HC-V700 which has recently been replaced by the 720, this camera has a good performance indoors.
